Saint Effete
First of all...let me just state the obvious. The Marlins uniforms are officially awesome again. There was a 7-yeard period where they went too hard on the black-silver-and-multicolor weird thing they were doing with the rebrand. The M insignia is a bit stronger now that there's more of a green presence. Plus, this means they can use teal uniforms when they want, which I am all for.
Anyway, back to the fact at hand: Marlins still aren't good.
The last of the braintrust that made this team a borderline threat, J.T. Realmuto, is now sitting in Philly. And now...this team has basically nothing left. Who's the ace? Jose Urena, who has an ERA of 9. Who's the power hitter? Lewis Brinson, who currently has ZERO home runs. Who's the biggest star on the team? Curtis Granderson, whose best days were with a Marlins' rival. How's Starlin Castro doing? Alright, I guess.
Nobody's going to games, there's little to no star power, the guys who are doing well like Trevor Richards, Sandy Alcantara and Jorge Alfaro are people no one's heard of, and it's becoming a matter of whether Don Mattingly will get fired midway through the season or after it.
Again, you got to hope that there's something good waiting in the farm system. A lot of these young talents they're relying on now, like Alcantara, Brinson and Alfaro, weren't brought through this farm system. Thanks to the deals for Bour, Stanton and Realmuto...there's some good stuff in waiting. The Phillies in particular sent over Sixto Sanchez, who may be the Fernandez-esque arm the Marlins are waiting for. It's just a matter of how long he takes to pass through the minors.
Not much optimism in Miami right now, but nothing's constant in baseball.
Coming Tomorrow- His dad was a power hitter, so naturally he's a...speedy contact hitter. Okay then.
