2009- The Year in Review

Oh, man. What a year this was. And in about 12 hours, it'll be over. Some people are giving their best cards of the year (Night Owl), some people are on a Ripping Rampage (Troll), some people are murdering us with Dawson cards (30Year) and some people are doing nothing. But I will give you some of the highlights of 2009.

This was the year that the Topps flagship set looked pretty good again. I didn't need to slaughter my family out of $70 just to get the factory set this year (although somebody did by mistake).

This was the year that Topps thought it was a great idea to bring back 206. And it worked.

This was the year that Upper Deck put out yet another lousy monster set. And that kept a few of the collectors out of their hands.

This was the year that on television, Russell lost for no reason, Lambert lost for no reason, Rita took a bath, Don shut the door, and Ben and Locke teamed up to kill Jacob. All in all, great year for disappointment.

This was the year that Topps thought it was a great idea to bring back Turkey Red. And it worked.

This was the year that Upper Deck did not get granted the magic words to keep making licensed cards. A shame, though, because what they were putting out was pretty good.

This was the year that I thought it was a grand idea to put Derek Jeter into a 1981 topps design. And it apparently worked.

This was the year that Topps put out that wonderful Propaganda set, but also, ToppsTown.

This was the year that Upper Deck thought it was a great idea to bring back O-Pee-Chee. And the reviews were mixed.

This was the year that my boys in pinstripes won the world series. And I was there to witness the groundroots of the win. This was the year I went to the world series.

This was the year that, sometime in January, while searching for photos of the upcoming Topps release, I was unwittingly led onto Stale Gum.com, and I saw what was going on, and I thought "Hey, why can't I be someone like that?"

This was the year that, on February 9th, I became a Baseball Card Blogger

And to the future. To anyone who's on Facebook, you probably know this already. One of the first Baseball Card Bloggers there ever was is coming back to the blogosphere. Ben Henry and his Baseball Card Blog (Simply titled that) will be back in 2010.

Isn't that a year you can look forward to?

Finally, a somehow non-disappointing trade

Jason Bay is no longer a Red Soc. This means the outfield of the new york Yankees can rest easy. Mean while, let's hope that Victorino, Werth and RAAAUUUULLL are ready to jump and catch Mr. Bay's balls (insert your own joke here), because Jason Bay is now a Met.

I wouldn't say I have anything to worry about. I mean, he's just another outfielder. Of course, this would make Bay the 2nd oldest outfielder there, ( Yep, Francoer is still the youngest), but who really cares. What matters is that he's not on the Red Sox anymore. Unfortunately, Mike Cameron and Jeremy Hermeida are.

Year by Year Customs: Crap Edition

I made these a while ago for a potential best rookies of the decade project. The project was scrapped, but the customs weren't. I have a few more coming before Christmas.

More Year by Year Customs

I am on a roll. I won't be needing to crank out more for a few days. Still, if you have any requests, leave a comment (please) and I'll see what I can do.

Year by Year Customs

Sorry I couldn't get these up yesterday. Good old fashioned televison was digging on my mind. Unfortunately, Russell lost, and they chose that idiot Natalie. But you guys don't care about TV, anyway. Here are some more cards, anyway...

Year by Year Customs

I finally got you guys a Halladay and a Zimmerman. Hooray, I guess. Definitely more to come...

The weather outside is frightful...

I was planning on getting some cards today. But now, I can't. Why?

Because the heavens just took a clean white dump on my driveway. Translation= there is about a foot of snow covering all exits of my house.

The good news is that I haven't seen Kathy Bates, Jack Nicholson or Bigfoot trudging around out there, so I'm safe for now.

Year by Year Customs

I cannot stop cranking these out. I've been doing a lot of Photoshopping lately. Keep those requests coming, I need more ideas!!!

NICK JOHNSON???

WHAT THE F--- ARE YOU THINKING??? Sure, we could've resigned Damon...but NOOOOOOOO...you had to sign Nick Johnson. Again...why?

As you can tell by now, my day today has not been the greatest

Year by Year Customs

The customs keep on coming. BTW- Am totally pissed about the Halladay deal, because why trade Lee in the first place?

Year by Year Customs

Again, thanks for the feedback. They'll only be getting better as they go along. If you guys have any requests, leave them in the comments.

Year by year Customs

Thanks for the positve feedback. I have a lot more of these planned, especially for the recent tradebait.

Continuation of the worst trade day ever

Mike Cameron, why couldn't you have just stayed at home. But NOOOOOO. You had to sign with Boston.

Also, I have nothing that bad to say about Matsui, that the Angels are basically recreating the Yankees 2008 outfield. All they need is Damon.

And finally, The Halladay deal isn't final quite yet. In other news, Brian Cashman says "Exxxxxcelent"

Year by Year Customs

I do not have a Halladay for you quite yet. I am working on one, though. In the meantime, enjoy a few of the ugly tombstones

How did all the crap in the world have to happen today?

Did Boston not learn to shut up every once in a while?
In other news, if Philly is trying to gain Halladay, but also trade Lee, then what the f--- is the point of the deal, anyway?
Edit- Yeah, I believe they followed through. What was the point of the whole deal when you're trading the aces you were supposed to keep?

What I missed

Jason Kendall on the Royals
JJ Putz on the ChiSox
Lance Broadway, Jack Cust, Garret Atkins, Johnny Gomes cut.

What a slow weekend.

Year by Year Customs

Because I have to crank out some more before we get pics of the players in their new unis, I have customs from every year, and I'll present a few every day.

Tomorrow- what has been proclaimed as the Psychadelic Tombstone set.
