Ivan Rodriguez is one of the best catchers in the game. He is a surefire candidate to get into cooperstown.
Now what the hell is he doing with the Nationals???
Seriously, this is one of the worst teams in the league. Other players have fallen this low, such as Dmitri Young, Austin Kearns, Adam Dunn, Paul Lo Duca- you get the point. I'm just saying-why would someone like the Nationals jump at the sugggestion of signing an aging catcher? Seriously, he has a few years left, but he's not the catcher he was at the beginning of the decade.
Of course, this was just what Wade Boggs did when finishing his career- he signed with the low rate Rays. And we all know how that turned out for him- it only strengthened his HOF-worthy career. So it could go either way- it could go in the direction of Boggs, or the direction of all the other aging players on that team.
In other news, Brad Penny has signed with St. Louis, but who really cares about that?
Seriously bummed here. I was hoping that he would accept arbitration and stay with Texas until he retired.
ReplyDeleteIvan must be going where he thinks he will play most. Plus I bet few teams offered him a two year deal. I think he is going to try to hang out no matter what to get to 3000 hits. It could take four seasons though.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to see him stick with Texas, I am sure he would have, too. He really wants to get to 3000 and like Ken said, with the Nats he can get 5 at-bats a night and still have some solid protection in the lineup
