Home Run Derby: Live Blogged

Well, it's that time of year again, folks. Yep, it's the time when Chris Berman is glad he's employed, and the rest of the world isn't quite. It's the Home Run Derby!!!

Tonight, every contestant will be preceded by a prediction of how they'll do, and then their actual result will be blogged, all throughout the program.

I'd like to start, but ESPN is using the guise of a rain delay to stall for another fifteen minutes. And believe me, we've had enough of that from the roster announcement show.

So, once they stop stalling, we'll get this show on the road.

9:01- okay, it looks like they may be starting this damn thing soon.

TODD FRAZIER

Projected Homers: 4. Good effort, but may not go through.

I love that the catcher has a goPro on his hat. Cool.

HOME RUNS: 2

I overshot a bit, but my point was not lost.

BRIAN DOZIER

Projected Homers: 7. Could be a sleeper hit, may make it to next round.

HOME RUNS: 2

Maybe not, then.

TROY TULOWITZKI

Projected Homers: 9. Could do very well and move on.

HOME RUNS: 4

Not necessarily 9, but well done.

JOSE BAUTISTA

Projected Homers: 10. Will likely hit a ton of them.

HOME RUNS: 10!!!

I got something right for once!!

YASIEL PUIG

Projected Homers: 7. Will do pretty well, but may not get through.

Home Runs: 0. Sad, because he's a great player.

ADAM JONES

Projected Homers: 3. Could do well, but will only get a few.

HOME RUNS: 4. Not bad at all, Mr. Jones

GIANCARLO STANTON

Projected Homers: 12. Will likely be really big here.

HOME RUNS: 6.

NICE JOB! That'll get him to the next round.

JOSH DONALDSON

Projected Homers: 4. Not bad, but not great.

HOME RUNS: 3

Solid round, but now it means Adam Jones' four home runs are headed to round 2, and there's not a thing anyone can do with it.

JUSTIN MORNEAU

Projected Homers: 6. Seems like enough for a welcome home.

HOME RUNS: 2

Still a good bout. Him and Frazier will have a swing-off.

YOENIS CESPEDES

Projected Homers: 15 if he's lucky. I think he'll do just as well as last year.

HOME RUNS: 3

Good enough to register for a swing-off with Donaldson.

Frazier goes on for the NL

Cespedes moves on for the AL (predictably so)

TODD FRAZIER

Projected Homers: 3. I don't know if he'll make it.

HOME RUNS: 6. VERY NICE JOB!

TROY TULOWITZKI

Projected Homers: 5. I now think he'll take a backseat and let Frazier move on.

HOME RUNS: 2

FRAZIER MOVES ON

YOENIS CESPEDES

Projected Homers: 10. I think he'll do a lot.

HOME RUNS: 9 VERY NICE JOB!!!

ADAM JONES

Projected Homers: 5. He can't catch Cespedes

HOME RUNS: 3. Nice effort, but no stopping Cespedes. HE MOVES ON

NEXT ROUND

TODD FRAZIER:

Projected Homers: 4. I don't see him outdoing Stanton.

HOME RUNS: 1

Hell of a night for him nonetheless.

GIANCARLO STANTON:

Projected Homers: More than 1.

WHOA! HE GETS NOTHING! TODD FRAZIER AND HIS ONE HOME RUN ARE GOING TO THE FINALS OF THE HOME RUN DERBY!!! HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN??

YOENIS CESPEDES:

Projected Homers: 7

HOME RUNS: 7!! I got it right.

JOSE BAUTISTA

Projected Homers: 5

HOME RUNS: 4

Bautista is out, and CESPEDES MOVES ON AGAINST FRAZIER...take a wild guess who's going to win...

YOENIS CESPEDES

I think he's gonna win.

HOME RUNS: 9!!! That should be enough to keep Frazier at bay.

TODD FRAZIER:

Lucky if he gets more than one.

HOME RUNS: 1

YOENIS CESPEDES WINS HIS SECOND HOME RUN DERBY IN A ROW!!!

Congrats Cespedes. That was awesome. Funny how I predicted that at the top of the post.

  1. Someone needs to create a filter to remove Berman's voice from sports telecasts. They would be a millionaire.

  2. Plus Buck's forehead. At least sell advertising space on it.

  3. I can't believe I shut it off before Cespedes stole the show! Oh well. Love the customs - it is funny how a 1991 Donruss card - how you can be so sick of the design, and see Josh Donaldson on it ... you fall in love with it all over again.
