I have no idea what to make of the San Diego Padres. They start the season being completely swept and shutout in a three game series with the Dodgers. Then they go the next two games with more than 10 runs a pop. I have no idea what's going on here, but it's not exactly promising.
Right now they're last in the division, with an inversion of what the Giants are leading the division with. It certainly looks like they're engineering a down season, even if Matt Kemp and company are continuing to smack in home runs left and right.
It makes no sense because this is a team that, last year, basically concluded that the moves they made in winter 2014 meant nothing, and started undoing the progress. However, James Shields and Matt Kemp are still impressive, and Wil Myers' comeback is still coming along. This is a losing team that is refusing to LOOK LIKE a losing team...which is weird.
Myers so far has been hitting well, and is hoping to get back to where he was in 2013, although the injuries haven't helped his outlook any. Part of me also thinks the Rays were so willing to give him up back in the deal that sent Trea Turner to Washington and Steven Souza to Tampa, because they knew something was up. They saw the injuries, and they knew he wouldn't get back to 100%, so they dealt him. And now, San Diego's dealing with what's left.
Wil Myers, like the Padres, is pretty vexing, but hopefully something will come of them both soon.
