The last thing Cole Hamels ever did for the Philadelphia Phillies was let them know those ten seasons had been absolutely worthwhile.
He stood on the mound at Wrigley and completely blanked one of the hottest, up-and-coming teams in baseball, not allowing a single hit, and not at all turning back. The more impressive part was that this was a lost cause- the Phillies were in last, they wouldn't be making an impact in 2015, and this effort would end up being pretty futile in the grand scheme of things. And yet he no-hit the Cubs anyway. He knew this would probably be his last start as a Phillie...and he made it absolutely count.
That's one of the reasons why I still really enjoy Cole Hamels, even after he left my team. Cole Hamels is passionate about the game, and doesn't back down for nothing. Thankfully, he's back to pitching for a first place team, which has to be pretty refreshing for him.
Hamels has struggled a bit, giving up a few too many home runs, but overall he's been a pretty impressive, dominant force for a Rangers team abundant with great arms. I really have no idea if he's gonna try to recreate the magic of his Philly numbers, but I'd love to see him try.
Still have a ton of admiration for ya, Cole. Always will.
