It's been a while since I've talked about a legitimately strong pitcher in Colorado- not since Ubaldo Jimenez in 2010, I think. But Jon Gray this season has gone on a strikeout tear, and has made a case for his team's, and his rotation's legitimacy.
It doesn't help a ton that Colorado's not a great city for pitching battles, but Gray is doing the best he can, and throwing a ton of strikes and jutting to the top of the rotation. This is good, as the rotation has lacked a legitimate ace for the longest time.
The Rockies are actually close to being contenders- they have a ton of really nice players in good positions, and a ton of them have been on this year. The downside is the fact that the pitching has been inconsistent, and there's not a whole lot of roster depth. But there is at least some stuff going on with this team. Not enough to keep them out of third, but...enough to keep people watching.
Coming Tomorrow- A guy that has been with his team for close to ten seasons, and is a part of another potential killer playoff team.
