It's October, which means the update sets are out in full force. So, before Topps Update comes out later this month (and BELIEVE ME...I WILL BE COMMEMORATING THIS), I figured I'd pick up some hanger boxes of Heritage's answer to that, their High Number series. Last year it was a nice little pick me up, despite the slightly-stretched Insert ideas and a few moments where you questioned the set's existence, but I'm glad they brought it back, as their use of the 1967 design is a pretty nice one.
Two hanger boxes. Inserts and cool base cards galore. Let's go in:
Box #1-
665- Jurickson Profar. Rookie sensation from about 4 years ago...sort of getting around to the good stuff, though he had about ONE good month this season.
680- Tyler Chatwood. Okay season, but...in Colorado.
562- Ryan Vogelsong. Bet he wishes he was still in San Fran...
691- Dillon Gee
559- Edwin Diaz
652- Tony Kemp. Several rookies I've never heard of.
575- Howie Kendrick. Okay, at least there's someone that should have been in the regular set, and someone I've heard of.
642- Matt Bush. And here's a ROOKIE I've heard of...
540- Matt Buschmann. Not the same thing...
638- Matt Purke
620- Matthew Bowman. Yeah, a ton of rookies in this set, but a lot of people that barely even made an impact this season.
636- Jake Barrett.
534- Gavin Floyd. He's still in the leagues??
528- Scott Kazmir. At last, another guy who's getting playoff time.
622- Khris Davis. Very homer-friendly and not very average-friendly, but it was for the A's, so it didn't really matter anyway...
626- Mark Lowe
Rookie Performers insert of Blake Snell, a rookie who...performed alright, I guess.
707- TREVOR STORY ROOKIE SHORT PRINT. WELL....I GUESS THIS BOX IS AWESOME NOW.
717- Max Kepler CHROME #D TO 999. Another really awesome pull.
Award Winners insert of Carlos Correa
659- Zach Eflin RC. Not bad.
594- Stephen Drew, now on the Nats.
675- Blaine Boyer
614- Drew Pomeranz. At least they got one or two deadline deals in here.
683- Whit Merrifield. Had a pretty decent rookie year, tbh.
557- Chris Tillman, who had another really nice season this year.
678- Drew Stubbs
507- Jeimer Candelario
643- Luis Cessa. There's a rookie I've heard of, one that better have a nice 2017.
533- Adam Conley
661- Geovany Soto, who, again, is still somehow still playing.
596- Adam Warren, now back on the Yankees
536- Ryan Madson, who's FINALLY getting back to closing games.
623- Denard Span, who made the right choice in hopping from one NLDS probable loser to another.
518- Jayson Werth, one of those guys I can't help but collect.
Box #2-
577- Nick Tropeano
604- Raisel Iglesias, who...didn't have the season Reds fans thought he would.
556- Joe Biagini
632- Michael Ynoa
547- Michael Saunders- inexplicably great in 2016.
633- Jason Grilli, whose career is...basically over.
585- Jeremy Hellickson, who had a GREAT APRIL...and sort of petered out.
629- Steve Cishek
524- David Ross, who's having a stellar final season.
671- Kevin Plawecki
514- Lucas Giolito, a huge prospect that...will probably be better next year.
651- Alen Hanson
555- Tanner Roark, who...WOULD HAVE started yesterday, had it not been for the rain.
667- Tyler Goeddel. Yay, another Phils rookie.
539- Vance Worley...who I wish the Orioles would have let start...
724- Jeff Samardzija SP. Very nice.
Now and Then insert of Victor Martinez.
711- Marcus Stroman CHROME #'D TO 999. Not as good as the Kepler, but still kind of nice i guess.
515- Melvin Upton Jr....still on the Padres, but still..
537- Phil Gosselin
525- Alex Presley
531- Ryan Dull
564- Ben Zobrist, who finally broke HUGE with the Chicago.
653- Steven Wright. Again, huge season for him too.
650- Ben Gamel
502- Juan Lagares, who will probably have a better year in 2017.
663- Sean Manaea, one of the many surprisingly good A's rookies.
520- Ben 'Not on the Roster' Revere
670- Danny Santana
517- Jon Jay
681- Josh Rutledge
552- Jon Niese
690- Ivan Nova, now on the Pirates
591- Matt Moore, now on the Giants. Not a PERFECT Update set tbh.
So...those were the boxes, and...they yielded some pretty nice stuff.
