TORrential Downpour
It's not getting any better for Toronto.
J.A. Happ, Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson, Aaron Sanchez, Russell Martin. Five guys who made this team a contender in 2016. All of them are currently injured.
Ryan Goins, Russell Martin, Jose Bautista, Devon Travis, Steve Pearce. All big-league heavy hitters who made this roster stacked this year. All are currently just flirting with the Mendoza line. Bautista's only hitting .169, with 43 strikeouts.
Yes, while Marco Estrada, Marcus Stroman and Francisco Liriano are doing a well enough job pitching and keeping people down, they don't have much else in terms of pitching right now. They've already released two pitchers who were simply not hitting the strike zone, and now they're sifting through their bullpen for possible relievers.
The guys who are actually getting things done for the Blue Jays are people you'd never expect- Ezequiel Carrera, Kevin Pillar and Darwin Barney, all but one basically backups, are actually hitting pretty well. Kendrys Morales, while not amazing, has still hit 6 home runs. The situation is indeed dire, but people are still trying their best.
I don't think the Blue Jays are going to compete this year, so their next step should be trying to at least win as many games as they can given the circumstances.
Coming Tomorrow- One of the many red-hot pitchers for the Nationals.
