The Battle of Whose Owner Sucks More

There was a moment during last night's broadcast of the A's-White Sox game, which was on the road to being the first win the White Sox had achieved after 21 straight losses. This game, which was in Oakland, was already at an A's deficit, and the fans began a rousing 'F--k John Fisher' chant. Which pretty much everybody got in on. The White Sox broadcasters, who must have been burnt out after 21 straight losses, just took the pause. And just let the 'F--k John Fisher' chant speak for itself.

At that moment, the White Sox realized that there was a fanbase that had it worse than theirs. Because at least the White Sox aren't leaving Chicago because the owner doesn't want to replace the stadium. At least Guaranteed Rate Field is still decent enough, if unspectacular. And at least their fans don't have to brave Sacramento, or even Vegas weather, if they still wanna be fans of this team.

So yeah, essentially this Sox-A's series has become a battle of who's worse right now. And it's looking relatively even. The Sox got to start a key prospect in Ky Bush the other night, and he got roughed up by the A's lineup. Then last night the Sox put up Jonathan Cannon and he had his best start in a while, only allowing 1 run and striking out 5. Cannon's only been around for one season but he feels like he's been fighting a war for centuries. Tonight is the nail-biting matchup between Joey Estes and Davis Martin. The crowd goes nuts.

And the weirdest part of all of this is even if both teams have played very depressing baseball this year, the A's are surprisingly close to being a good ballclub. Lawrence Butler, Brent Rooker, J.J. Bleday, Shea Langeliers have all had noteworthy seasons, and that's more takeaways than they had last year. It's very likely that Rooker will have a 30+ home run season, which is a refreshing change of pace. With J.P. Sears at 9 wins, it's extremely likely that the A's will have their first 10+ game winner since 2021. This still isn't a great team, and when Mitch Spence, who's 7-7 with a 4.40 ERA, is one of the best pitchers you know times are tough, but you're seeing major improvements. The version of this team that arrives in Sacramento next season will likely be even more polished and even more confident.

Whereas the White Sox...I mean...the best player on the team is at war with management, and the other best player probably wants to be traded after the season. So if the Sox are without Robert and Crochet next year, they might honestly be even worse. Who the hell does this team have to work with otherwise? Nobody in this lineup is hitting right now. Only Crochet and Cannon are doing anything impressive in the rotation. Help doesn't come for another few years at this rate. It may just keep getting worse if the GM is going for a slow rebuild, which he clearly is.

So for now, this White Sox-A's series is just a taste of what could either continue being this depressing or just be even more depressing for the Sox. How bad are they gonna feel when the A's can get something going and they can't?

Coming Tomorrow- In his rookie season, he begged for an opportunity to play everyday. Now he's here, and the team has decided to stop playing well.

  1. Kudos to the White Sox broadcasters. Fisher is terrible. I hope he has a change of heart... and sells the team.
