So earlier in the week...I think, as time is moving weirdly for me these days, I broke a hanger box and a blaster of 2018 Topps Series 2. I was not in love, mostly because of some silly decisions Topps keeps making on their flagship releases, but I still enjoyed the set enough to promise to keep buying.
...well not even a week later, I have bought another hanger box of the stuff. My fear here is that I'll end up regretting the purchase by pulling a ton of duplicates. But...in we go anyway...
459- Breyvic Valera. We start with a Cardinals rookie who hasn't been able to play due to the overabundance of good talent in that infield right now.
626- Brandon Maurer
498- Jen-Ho Tseng, who has become the Kyuji Fujikawa of this current Cubs team
454- Kyle Seager, who's, by default, become the leading Seager brother this season.
416- Derek Fisher
528- Marco Estrada. Saw him pitch a gem a few weeks ago.
537- Phil Hughes, recently released
624- Franklin Barreto, now with Oakland. If we're still counting unneeded cards, which we might as well be, we're at #1
596- Keury Mella RC
540- Mitch Garver, currently the starting catcher for Minnesota.
546- Jordan Luplow RC. A ton of rookies that haven't made a great impact for their teams yet.
685- Russell Martin, still not as good as he used to be.
679-Tyson Ross, who is pictured as a Padre again. However, as it's not a PS-job, I must wonder if they just got a photo of him from before 2017.
478- Brad Miller, who also just got released. Great photo though
463- Cory Spangenberg
378- Aaron Wilkerson RC. Another rookie that's not been a thing yet.
443- Gerrit Cole, in an Astros uniform. I'm thinking this might be a photoshop job, as that's definitely the Great American Ballpark in the background, but it's still a great one.
675- Victor Arano RC. Yes, this rookie HAS factored into the Phillies' 2018 season.
367- Liam Hendriks, one of the premiere Australians in the MLB.
622- Ryan Rua
525- Johan Camargo, who's playing when he can given the now-crowded state of the Braves' infield
'659- Diamondbacks TC. Beautiful card
542- Pirates TC
529- All Smiles; Schwarber and Bryant CL. Glad these are still pretty cool
558- Ben Gamel crashing into the Mariners' outfield wall
692- Tony Watson
357- Josh Hader, one of the best relievers in the game right now
421- Lorenzo Cain, one of the best HITTERS in the game right now. Both Brewers. Nice trend.
383- JaCoby Jones, walk-off extraordinaire in Detroit
479- Daniel Descalso, one of the few members of the 2011 Cardinals who actually figured out how to have a career afterwards
458- Yovani Gallardo. In a Brewers uniform. He's currently back with Arlington. Unneeded Card #2
392- Marcus Stroman
579- Carson Fulmer
LEGENDS insert of Bob Gibson, who's always nice to pull.
83T All Stars insert of Rod Carew, complete with a snazzy 80s Headband
367- Liam Hendriks SHINY parallel
586- Kyle Freeland VINTAGE STOCK #'D TO 99. What is it with me and low-numbered parallels lately. This is pretty nice, if I do say so myself.
Instant Impact of Jeff Bagwell, in an early 90s Astros uniform
2 Cody Bellinger inserts, which might be a smidge overexposed.
Legends in the Making of George Springer, who's always fun to pull
Legends in the Making of Byron Buxton. I do love this insert set, but I'm not sure how well the Buxton one will age
483- Drew Pomeranz, with a great red tint to it
648- Derek Holland
10 dupes, including Joey Votto, Cole Hamels and Hanley Ramirez
657- Derek Dietrich, former bench player now forced to start
696- Kenley Jansen, still one of the best closers in baseball
562- Brian McCann, who's focusing more on hitting than being a good catcher these days...
408- Mikie Mahtook
396- Matt Olsen, one of the many Oakland Matts
628- Vince Velasquez, who's FINALLY figured out how to win games
662- Patrick Corbin, having his best season since Ian Kennedy was on the team.
400- Jose Altuve, still so fun to watch
645- Welington Castillo
418- Jose Ramirez, one of the best hitters in the game right now
621- Jerad Eickhoff, who hasn't pitched yet, but is still a great Philadelphia arm
574- Jared Hughes, a member of the inexplicably great Reds bullpen
561- Dan Straily
499- Justin Bour
385- Jason Hammel
449- DJ LeMahieu, still a great defensive infielder
687- Blake Treinen
695- Matt Davidson
So, not as many dupes as I thought, and a lot better in terms of content and players I collect. Plus, I got a low-numbered Kyle Freeland out of the deal. Much better stuff going on with this hanger box, to the point where I'm feeling a ton better about this set
