The Stars Are Out: Movie Edition

Continuing this blog's ongoing series of celebrities and such throwing out the first pitch at major league ballgames, we encounter six people who've been in some movies, to say the least.

We'll start with a classic- Ralph Macchio, the Karate Kid himself, throwing one out at Citifield, in Mets colors and everything. Nice to see he still gets fan recognition, and since the Cobra Kai series has made The Karate Kid cool again (like it needed help), I'm glad he got an excuse to throw one out in Queens.

This one's probably one of the more obvious First Pitch customs I could have done. Mila Kunis is still one of the more ubiquitous female celebrities out there, and even though The Spy Who Dumped Me wasn't particularly great, she's still a definite personality. And...like most Hollywood personalities, she's a Dodgers fan, so of course she gets the royal treatment at Chavez Ravine.

Speaking of movie star Dodger fans, this one's...not exactly a cover girl...

...but Danny Trejo is one of the most unmistakable character actors in Hollywood. I should say the phrase 'character actor' loosely, as he's basically playing the same sort of character in most of his movies...predominantly named Machete. He's been in the Spy Kids movie, he's been a thug in Con Air, he's worked with the Muppets, and he's been likable even with his 'tough guy' nature. And, of course, he's a Dodgers fan. He seems really happy, too, which is a rare expression for him.

Onto a few people that made the leap from television to movies (other than Kunis). Joel McHale, for nearly a decade, was the host of The Soup, on E!, and was one of the most scathing critics of reality TV. And then he got a part on Community and became a sitcom hero, and then he became an occasional supporting actor on film. This summer he was in The Happytime Murders. Don't worry, he'll probably recover. He's also a diehard Seattle sports fan, so throwing out the first pitch at the Mariners' game was a gimme.

Speaking of former NBC sitcom stars, here's Ron Swanson. Yeah, if you know Nick Offerman, you know he's a diehard Cubs fan, having lived in Chicago for most of his life. Even if he's been doing great work in films like Hearts Beat Loud, Me & Earl and the Dying Girl, and...yes, and The Lego Movie, he'll still be best known as Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec, and he embraces this reputation. Cubs fans also seem to love him, and why wouldn't they?

Finally, a photo taken on Star Wars night on Yankee Stadium, with a first pitch thrown out by the director of Solo, the newest SW prequel, as well as...well, better movies like Apollo 13, Rush, A Beautiful Mind and Splash. The guy's got an Oscar for directing, and he's also a very smart businessman and producer. And, if you're an Arrested Development fan, he's your voice of reason. It's a nice move that Ron Howard is also on the light side of the force here, throwing out the first pitch for the Yankees. Again, he's from Maycomb, so I worried he'd stay loyal to California or Atlanta or something, but he's a Yankee supporter, which is pretty nice.
