Him too?

I mean, we all knew it was coming, but man! With the whole 'Mo retiring' thing, now we have another big time Yankee star leaving the game. And it's kinda sad, because Pettite was a pretty awesome pitcher, especially for my team.

I'll miss Pettite, and I hope this means Cooperstown in 6 years...you know, unless he comes back in another two years.

Do I sense a pattern here?

 

December 2006: Will Andy Sign? Yes, back to Yanks.

December 2008: Is Andy coming back? Yes.

December 2009: Is Andy coming back? Yes.

December 2010: Is Andy coming back? No, he's retired.

March 2012: Is Andy coming back? Surprisingly, yes.

December 2012: Is Andy coming back? Yes, with the Yankees.

It happens every winter. With the exception of one year, it's gone according to plan. Glad Andy's back where he belongs, and I hope he has one last great year.

Custom Card of the Day: Pettite Edition

 

I don't think that Andy Pettite is a Hall of Famer. I mean, if he does get in, it won't be immediately. He's under appreciated solely because he played on winning Yankees teams, and a pennant-winning Astros team (yes, one of those existed). Actually...why IS he underappreciated?

I mean yeah, he didn't rack up too many wins, and he was never a huge star, but he's a great pitcher, and he at least deserves some consideration. Of the 1995 4, 2 are Cooperstown Definites (Jeter and Rivera) and one is a probable. Then there's Pettite. Nobody knows what to think about him.

But I do. I think he deserves at least some sort of accolade. 

I think he got one too. This card is one of my favorite customs I've made. Not just in a while. Ever. This might be one of the best I've ever churned out. I mean, look at that.Overflowing with color, it's almost like a work of art, and not a baseball card. I think it's as good as last year's Ryan Howard and the year before's Mo Rivera.

So if he doesn't get to the Hall, he can at least be in mine.

Coming Tomorrow- In 1977, Sparky Lyle became the first relief pitcher to win the Cy Young again. He, if anything, proved that it can be done. But can it be done for a team that might not even reach the playoffs, even if this sophomore closer is one of the best in the league? Maybe.

Welcome Back (again)

I feel like every five years Andy Pettite returns to the Yankees. Fitting, too. Back in 2007 we were a force to reckon with in the AL. Back to the good old days, I guess.

Welcome Back, Andy. Stay for as long as you want.

Thanks for 12 decent seasons...and for not retiring like you said you would after the 07, 08 and 09 seasons.

Andy has returned for the umpteenth time

Andy Pettite said he would retire at the end of the 2009 season. Then he signed with the Yankees again.

Andy once again said last year that he'd retire during the offseason.

And lo and behold, we've signed him again. This is getting worse than Brett Favre.

In other news, ESPN has not updated its status on the Granderson deal. Any day now. I'd like to sleep tonight, Cashman.

Also, Randy Wolf signed with the Brewers, but who really cares about that? This is the Yankees we're talking about here!
