Margot Away

More fun with the 2018 Padres. And by fun, I mean painful rumination of what could have been.

The Padres are 18.5 games behind the offensive...far and away the worst team in the NL...now completely stripped of any pitching talent, now that Jordan Lyles and Tyson Ross are gone. Right now, their highest WAR is from Kirby Yates, a reliever-turned closer, with 1.7. Wil Myers and his .273 average are right behind, but he's on the DL.

And behind them...a mess of failed prospects, misguided contracts, and spoiled talent. NOBODY is doing well. Manny Margot is barely staying afloat. Christian Villanueva has struck out a ton of times. Only Myers and AJ Ellis are hitting over .260. The staff ace, Clayton Richard, has a near 6.0 ERA, and only Joey Lucchesi has enough starts to back him up, though Matt Strahm's starts have looked good.

The pitching's depleted. The hitting's limp. The team has basically no future, at least not immediately, and...it may not get easier to watch for a little while. I don't know what else to say but that.

Coming Tomorrow- He hasn't exactly won 30 games yet, but he's still been a fixture for the Yankees lately.
