Giants Update: I Was Expecting Worse Edition

Johnny Cueto just went on the DL, and he's gonna be having Tommy John surgery, and missing the rest of the season. And if you thought THAT would stop me from posting this custom I made in, like, May, then you are wrong.

It won't stop the Giants, either. Yes, they're five games behind the offensive, and in fourth place, but that's honestly a lot better than people would have thought looking at this team in April. The bullpen has been surprisingly great, with solid work from Tony Watson, Reyes Moronta and Will Smith. The bench, featuring Gorkys Hernandez, Alen Hanson and Nick Hundley, has come alive, even allowing rookies like Austin Slater and Steven Duggar to start helping. The original core of Crawford-Belt-Posey has been solid as usual, though Belt is currently on the DL. Longo is also on the DL, but the other newbie, Andrew McCutchen, has been doing pretty alright in his new uniform. And while MadBum, Chris Stratton and Derek Holland have been doing fine from the start at the rotation, Dereck Rodriguez has been a surprisingly apt 4th-starter, lapping them all in terms of WAR. You can tell he's got the blood of a Hall of Famer in him.

The only things holding this team back are its momentary lapses, a few parts of the lineup that aren't as strong as others, and the ultimate fact that the top 3 teams (LA, Colorado and Arizona) might be better overall than they are. They are, however, 5 games back, and IN THE RACE technically. The race is tight enough between the top 3 teams that someone like the Giants could sneak in. So I'm not counting this team out (because they're not the Padres), but...it'd be interesting to see how they make it in.

Coming Tomorrow- He's 30 years old, he has over 300 saves. Mariano Rivera better watch himself.
