Wheeler...Not Necessarily Dealer

[I realize now that it's spelled 'Zack'. I'm sorry]

I'm currently sitting in a beach house with my cousins from Staten Island. They're Mets fans. And I pity them.

Oh, they're nice people, don't get me wrong, but...my cousin Dylan has this...unquenchable belief that the Mets are still a good team this year. Despite injuries, trades, a new manager who is making Ben McAdoo look accomplished, my cousin seems to think they're still really good.

And...let's play devil's advocate here.

What do the Mets have right now that's working? Well...the trio of deGrom, Thor and Wheeler is pretty nice. Yeah, they've all been great on the mound, so at least 3/5ths of this rotation is generally unproblematic. Also, Todd Frazier has been a nice little face of the team, Michael Conforto is alright, Austin Jackson was a nice pickup, and Jose Bautista is having a surprising comeback year. Also...Amed Rosario and Jeff McNeil are gonna be running this team in a few years' time.

That's...really all I can say. Everybody else is either injured or terrible. With Jason Vargas, it's probably both. The bullpen is pretty blank without Familia, the lineup is dull without the injured players, and even the great performances, like deGrom's shutout earlier this week, are marred by bad gameplay.

I really can't, with confidence, call this Mets team good, or even okay. It's got its moments, but it's kinda hard to watch at this point.

Coming Tomorrow- Speaking of depressing teams to write about, a walkoff specialist for the Tigers.
