A (Potentially) Neverending Story

Trevor Story is the anti-Joey Gallo. He broke into the league in 2016, hit a ton of home runs, struck out a bunch...and then along the way he discovered the wonderful world of hitting for average.

Look, Trevor Story is still an ace home run hitter, and I bet the Rockies love that, but that's not his main issue anymore. He's also become a better defensive shortstop, he's evened out his batting averages, and he's learned that if the Rockies are going to keep lettings its non-Arenado stars leave, then he needs to be more consistent. And so far, he has been. His 2019 numbers aren't pristine exactly, but it's early, and he seems to have the right idea about his swing.

The rest of the team...isn't quite as lucky as Trevor Story. David Dahl was having a phenomenal year, but he just got scratched for a few games. Other than Arenado and Blackmon, and...yes, the amusing rookie debut of Josh Fuentes...there's not a hell of a lot else going on with this team. And a year after a playoff appearance where they looked legitimate for a few seconds, that's pretty depressing.

There's no designated closer, the lineup's a mess, even Kyle Freeland, who once looked indestructible, has given up a few too many runs, leaving a sturdy German Marquez and his new extension in charge of the rotation. I never thought that just taking Adam Ottavino out of the equation would leave the team in such disarray, but here we are.

There's a chance for a rebound once the Rockies get the hang of things, but...with the Dodgers and Padres doing well, it may be tricky.

Coming Tomorrow- Oh yeah, should probably talk about my Yankees, shouldn't I? Here's one that's still healthy.

  1. Love Story, and I always like when I pull one of his cards.
I'd love to own a nice autographed card one day.
