Buffalo Soldiers

The Blue Jays have lost 9 games since August 14th.

Let's make this the annoying stat like the Nats last season that keeps going.

Once again, the Toronto Blue Jays are jumping on midseason momentum by getting some rental players and absolutely annihilating competing teams. I'm not saying the Yankees don't deserve it, but the Jays right now are exploiting the Yankees' biggest weaknesses, like their lack of pitching, their lack of a moral center without Stanton and Judge, and their over reliance on the longball. The Jays, meanwhile, have LOADS of pitching, like Hyun-Jin Ryu, Chase Anderson and Taijuan Walker, they have a designated core with people like Vlad Jr., Cavan Biggio, and hot-as-hell Lourdes Gurriel Jr., and they have embraced contact hitting to the point where only one guy has more than 10 homers [Teoscar Hernandez, who is now injured], but nobody's really hitting badly.

Honestly, the best aspect of this team might be the bullpen. Jordan Romano, A.J. Cole, Anthony Kay, Anthony Bass, Tom Hatch and Sean Reid-Foley have all been stellar in relief. Bass has been closing games and doing a fine job of it, even if he's not 100-Miles Giles.

But still, this team is cohesive, hot, and likely nabbing a playoff spot away from the Yankees. I'm dead to it at this point. The Jays are good, they fixed their issues and the Yanks couldn't, and even the injuries the Jays have dealt with haven't been insurmountable. Which is the sign of a younger, more flexible team without like 20 contracts.

I look for the Jays to be a sleeper playoff hit, and potentially knock out a big threat before making an exit.

Coming Tonight: Genuine standout for the weirdest, most durable team in baseball.
