Hang the DJ

(Music Pun #2. Could also double as a Black Mirror reference)

The problem, once again, with being the Colorado Rockies, especially during a good season, is no matter how great the team is, and no matter how promising the roster is, there's still the element of 'playing in Coors Field and losing a ton of games'. And so far, thanks to the Denver factor as well as the 'teams are better than them' factor, the Rockies' once-strong record is beginning to slip in favor of teams like the Giants.

Again, it's not as if they're not trying. Charlie Blackmon has evolved into an elite power hitter, already notching 10 home runs right off the bat. Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu are picking up right where they left off as some of the best infielders in the game (though LeMahieu is currently on the DL). David Dahl is finally back, and displaying some of the truly nice stuff he had in 2016. Chad Bettis, Tyler Anderson and Jon Gray are all pitching well, with an emphasis on a truly masterful comeback season from Bettis.

And yet...the Diamondbacks are the better all-around team, and the Giants have been winning more games lately. So something, like some lineup pieces that aren't hitting, or some pitchers that are getting chewed up by Coors Field, isn't working as well as we all thought. And that detail may be illuminated as May goes on. So the Rockies need to figure out what they want to do, or how far they want to fall, and they need to do that soon.

Coming Tonight: The team's in disarray...save for that one third baseman guy who's usually great. Here's a strong pitcher trying to keep his record from sinking any further.

  1. I had to pop in and see if anyone else got that Smiths reference. Nice work!
