Hard Cell

I wasn't expecting this 2018 Cardinals squad to come off so...weird right off the bat.

I'll give you some examples. A 35-year-old catcher has started every game thus far, and has been excellent. One of the team's wins has come from a pitcher who hasn't pitched in the MLB since 2014, and the starter with the most strikeouts is someone who, before this season, only 20 to his name. An outfielder got his first hit of the season after he prayed on twitter for one, while an infielder has yet to hit one. A second-year shortstop has 3 home runs already, while Marcell Ozuna only has one.

Very, very weird stuff. Yadier Molina, Miles Mikolas, Jack Flaherty, Dexter Fowler and Paul DeJong are just the ones leading the charge. This team isn't ruling the division yet, and are behind the Brewers and Pirates (!!!!!!) in the standings, but the inklings of a dangerous team are there...which is a troubling prospect for a writer who's been despising said team for years. With the efforts of the Cubs and Brewers, though, it will probably be pretty tricky for them to completely dominate. There are definitely gonna be some great performances from this team, mostly from the youth movement of guys like Tommy Pham (who's...30), Jose Martinez (who's...29) and DeJong, who's thankfully 24.

I expect more weird happenings over the next few months, though it'd be the wrong kind of weird if they won it all.

(And if you'd like some more weirdness, check out who had a 1.50 ERA start the other night for Texas.)

Coming Tomorrow- Last year he won a World Series, now he's just trying to keep his good momentum going.
