Buccaneer Greatness

[double-takes]

Alright, how about that. First place Pirates. I wasn't expecting to see that again until after Hurdle left. Nicely done.

Weird part is a lot of what's working really well this season is people that were doing alright last season, but nobody noticed. Jameson Taillon, Trevor Williams and Felipe Rivero (nee Vazquez) were having fine seasons, but they were trapped under a mediocre team. Josh Bell was a stand-out, but he was one of the only ones.

Now, with no Cutch, no Cole, and no expectations, this Pirates team has skyrocketed into first, thanks to exceptional stuff from those four guys, as well as a really nice start from Corey Dickerson, some amazing RBI work from Gregory Polanco, and amusingly interesting stuff from bearded rookie Colin Moran. This team didn't look this promising last year, or even last month. Some serious work has been done to make this team pop, and I'm glad that it's happened.

...the only thing is I'm writing this in April, not October. The Pirates could very easily fall to to the Cubs and Brewers this year, and it could happen in the next week, month, or season. However, I do have a really nice feeling about this team's start, and I feel like they could be for real if they really keep at this stuff. They now have a new anchor, Josh Bell, to base the team behind, and they have a really strong rotation to keep people on their toes. Let's hope the momentum keeps coming.

Coming Tomorrow- One of the best 2nd basemen in baseball, and savior of a soggy AL West club.
