The Schoop of Things

So. Detroit Tigers. A team that has allowed 12 or more runs THREE TIMES in the past week. Uh...yeah.

I've probably said this before, but this Tigers team has nowhere near as much sheer awfulness as the past two. This team has a lot more people who can admirably play baseball, and a handful of the rookies have been keeping them out of last. But...the lows are very low with this team, and that includes having Milwaukee, St. Louis and Chicago piledrive the ever-loving shit out of them 3 times in the past week.

Jonathan Schoop is probably the most impressive aspect of the 2020 Tigers. Schoop came in from being one of the lower key members of both the mid-2010s Orioles and the 2019 Twins. However, being a lower-key member of a good team automatically makes you a high-tier member of the Tigers, cause Schoop has been doing well in home runs, RBIs and hits, and giving them veteran presence that isn't the low-WAR/high-class Miguel Cabrera.

However, in the last week or so, THANKFULLY some actual seasoned Tigers have caught up to him with their production. Jeimer Candelario, now playing first a lot more, is leading the team in WAR, RBIs, average and hits. Victor Reyes also is winning the team over with his 47 hits and high-contact ways. And you also have Spencer Turnbull having an impressive season on the mound as Matt Boyd and Michael Fulmer watch helplessly.

As for the rookies...only Tarik Skubal seems to be performing decently at the major league level. Now we have Derek Hill, Daz Cameron and Sergio Alcantara all struggling, and Casey Mize continuing to allow too many earned runs [though his K numbers aren't bad.

This is still a very okay team with some decent performers, but it's still a-ways from being competitive. If they can find a way to make all of these rookies who were lighting up the minors work in the major league level, then they might have a decent enough shot. But that might take awhile at this rate.

Coming Tonight: Due to the shortness of the season, I'm not saving customs of injured players til they get healthy. This Reds pitcher just landed on the DL, but I'm posting him anyway.
